This is the first time in the history of the United States Mint that a series of coins have been issued with new obverse designs created concurrently by a single designer along with a single new reverse design. The 2018 Platinum American Eagle Proof 70 coin is the first in a three-year series entitled, "Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Platinum Proof Coin Series." The obverse design of the 2018 coin features LIFE inscribed to the right of an interpretation of Lady Liberty teaching a small child how to sow seeds in a field. On Lady Liberty's left hip is a sword symbolizing the ideal of defending life. The ground beneath Lady Liberty and the small child is plowed that represents the work required to sustain life The background of the obverse design includes a tree and stream highlighting nature and the importance of good stewardship toward the environment. The reverse of the coin will be the same for all three coins issued in the series and features a left profile of a bald eagle with wings spread and an olive branch held by its talons. The nominal face value of the coin, $100, the weight and fineness of the coin, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are all inscribed on the reverse. Why invest in the coin?
