Ukiyo-e translates into pictures of the floating world. Ukiyo-e was essential for the West’s perception of Japanese art in the late 19th century with corypaeus artists Hokusai and Hiroshige. In the 1870’s Japonism became a trend in Europe and influenced impressionists and post-impressionists including Degas, Monet and Van Gogh. This print carries this delicate atmosphere, with its limited colour palette, elegant shapes, and ingenious use of negative space. Printed with Japanese archival ink on a matte Hahnemühle paper.
